How to Enable LinkedIn 2FA (Authenticator App)
Set up app-based two-factor authentication on LinkedIn.
For the "Stay connected" option, you need LinkedIn 2FA enabled with an authenticator app (not SMS). Follow these steps:
- Go to LinkedIn → Click your profile picture → Settings & Privacy
- Sign in & security → Two-step verification
- Choose "Authenticator app" (not phone number/SMS)
- During setup, LinkedIn shows a QR code and the manual secret key below it
- Important: Copy and save the secret key immediately—LinkedIn shows it only once. You will need it for Stay connected.
- Add the account to your authenticator app (Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, etc.)
App-based 2FA is more reliable than SMS for automated sessions. If you lose the secret key, disable 2FA on LinkedIn and re-enable it to get a new one.
